Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Cytotoxicity evaluation of a Thai herb using tetrazolium (MTT) and sulforhodamine B (SRB) assays

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Science and Technology, 2018
Background Various assays are used to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of chemicals on cultured cells. The sulforhodamine B (SRB) colorimetric assay is based on the ability of the SRB dye to bind basic amino acid residues on proteins.

Development of colorimetric lateral flow assays with gold nanostructures for Cystatin C detection

open access: yesSensors and Actuators Reports, 2022
Cystatin C (CysC) is a biomarker indicative of renal function, and its comorbidities, including heart failure. Generally, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) can detect CysC in hours but requires skilled personnel, thorough reagent preparation, and

Domain associated with zinc fingers‐containing NF90‐NF45 complex inhibits m6A modification of primary microRNA by suppressing METTL3/14 activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NF90–NF45 functions as a negative regulator of methyltransferase‐like 3/14 (METTL3/14)‐mediated N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) modification on primary microRNAs (pri‐miRNAs). NF90–NF45 binds to anti‐oncogenic pri‐miRNAs and inhibits their m6A modification, thereby suppressing the biogenesis of anti‐oncogenic miRNAs.

False positive acetaminophen concentrations in icteric serum

open access: yesPractical Laboratory Medicine, 2016
Introduction: Serum concentrations of acetaminophen are measured to predict the risk of hepatotoxicity in cases of acetaminophen overdose and to identify acetaminophen use in patients with acute liver injury without a known cause.

Development of assays for biomarkers of oxidative damage to assess the efficacy of fruit-derived antioxidants : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biochemistry at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The diet is a very important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Increased consumption of fruits and vegetables is one practice postulated to decrease the incidence of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and other disorders.

Anticancer sensitivities and biological characteristics of HCT116 cells resistant to the selective poly(ADP‐ribose) glycohydrolase inhibitor

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed alterations of PAR metabolism‐related proteins in PARG inhibitor‐resistant HCT116RPDD cells. Although PARG levels remained unchanged, HCT116RPDD cells exhibited reduced PARP1 and ARH3 expression and elevated PAR levels. Interestingly, HCT116RPDD cells exhibited slightly elevated intracellular NAD+/NADH and ATP levels. Our findings suggest a

Influence of hydroxyethyl starch (6% HES 130/0.4) administration on hematology and clinical chemistry parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: The chemical inertness of hydroxyethyl starch (HES) might cause interferences of the colloid with a variety of laboratory tests. We aimed to evaluate potential influences of HES 130/0.4, the newest HES type, on several common hematology and ...

Microspinning: Local Surface Mixing via Rotation of Magnetic Microparticles for Efficient Small-Volume Bioassays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The need for high-throughput screening has led to the miniaturization of the reaction volume of the chamber in bioassays. As the reactor gets smaller, surface tension dominates the gravitational or inertial force, and mixing efficiency decreases in small-
