Infrared drying kinetics of blue mussels and physical properties [PDF]
As an alternative to fish and beef, blue mussels (Mytilus edulis) can be consumed due to their high protein content. In this study, the drying kinetics and quality changes (cook loss, area shrinkage and colour change) in whole blue mussels were ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Colour Forecasting: An investigation into how its development and use impacts on accuracy [PDF]
Colour forecasting is a sector of trend forecasting which is arguably the most important link in the product development process, yet little is known about it, the methodology behind its development or its accuracy.

Potential of hardy kiwifruit (Actinidia arguta) for fruit spread production: a first insight
Hardy kiwifruits represent an unexplored agricultural resource for South Tyrol which could be of particular interest to the region by contributing to agricultural biodiversity and the valorisation of minor crops in the area.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Camouflage through colour change: mechanisms, adaptive value and ecological significance. [PDF]
Animals from a wide range of taxonomic groups are capable of colour change, of which camouflage is one of the main functions. A considerable amount of past work on this subject has investigated species capable of extremely rapid colour change (in seconds)

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

The influence of parametric effects on the appearance of small colour differences [PDF]
The effects of the two physical parameters, background and gap, on the perception of small colour differences (AE* < 5) were investigated by use of 248 colour-difference pairs around 21 colour centres made from painted samples.
