Morphology and Chemical Composition of the Nuchal Glands of Indonesian Snakes With a Description of a Novel Type of Glands

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 286, Issue 8, August 2025.
Nuchal glands, or organs resembling glands, were found in the head or neck region of Rhabdophis spp. from Indonesia. These species exhibit different spatial patterns of glands, with Rhabdophis from Sulawesi in particular showing a novel form located in the temporal and occipital regions of the head—possibly comparable to nuchal glands.

Opposite effects of climate and land‐use/cover change on Mediterranean herpetofauna: Insights from the southern Apennines

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 28, Issue 4, Page 501-514, August 2025.
Climate change (CC) and land‐use/cover change (LUCC) are threatening species worldwide, with amphibians and reptiles being particularly vulnerable. In Cilento, a highly biodiverse Mediterranean area in the southern Appenine protected by a National Park and 30 Natura 2000 Network sites, 11 amphibians and 16 reptiles could disappear in the future ...

Regional Climate Drives Spatial Variation in Species Richness in the Most Diverse Family of Neotropical Snakes (Colubroidea: Dipsadidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
Our study investigated the relative importance of the macroecological and macroevolutionary factors driving the patterns of species richness of the hyperdiverse snake family Dipsadidae across the Americas. By utilizing piecewise structural equations, we discovered that current climatic seasonality and productivity are the main drivers of species ...
