Haemoproteosis and avian malaria in Columbidae and Corvidae from Iran [PDF]
AbstractAvian malaria (Plasmodium) and related genera (Haemoproteus and Leucocytozoon) are diverse and widespread parasites. Despite the extent of knowledge on avian haemosporidian parasites, information about domestic and wild bird's blood parasites is overall insufficient in Iran.

EVOLUTION OF CELLULAR ANTIGENS IN COLUMBIDAE [PDF]
Experiments performed in this laboratory have revealed the complex serological interrelationships of the cellular antigens of a number of species of pigeons and doves (Irwin, 1951; 1953). The studies have shown that red blood cells from the respective species share antigens in common and that they also possess antigens to the exclusion of those found ...

ABSTRACT Bird bones are generally scarce in zooarchaeological assemblages in the medieval and early modern period from Finland and Sweden. To obtain new information on bird products and the role of water birds in the Baltic Sea during this period, zooarchaeological assemblages and historical documents were studied from these two countries.

We identified Culex pipiens bloodmeals at the species level in natural, agricultural and peri‐urban habitats and calculated host preferences based on forage ratios. This analysis showed Passeriformes, and in particular Columba livia, Passer montanus and Turdus sp., to be the preferred Cx. pipiens hosts.

Morphological aspects of the ovary of Columba livia (Gmelin) (Columbidae, Columbiformes) [PDF]
The study of the female genital system of Columba livia (Gmelin, 1789) is part of the research on the reproductive biology of Brazilian birds. This work describes the morphological aspects of the ovary of Columba livia, as well as the histological differences observed in the ovarian follicles during the ovocyte maturation process.

Assessment of a Social Media‐Based Method for Determining Raptor Diet
This study mined social media as a citizen science method to reduce the time burden and biases associated with recording accurate diet information for predators. In total, 1985 prey observations were recorded of two Australian coastal raptors and were used to produce diet profiles that were compared by region, social media platform, and against other ...
