Bubble spargers in column flotation: Adaptation to precipitate flotation
Minerals Engineering, 2000Abstract The limiting factor for metal-organic precipitate flotation in a column is the level of aggregate stability under the turbulence created by the rising bubbles. The hydrodynamic conditions in a 75 mm diameter pilot column were optimised by using different bubble spargers (Microcel, Flotaire, Imox) and by varying the gas flow rate into the ...

An investigation of the flotation mechanism in the aerosol column flotation machine
Russian Journal of Non-Ferrous Metals, 2009It is shown that the induction time decreases as the temperature decreases if there is air bubble adhesion to hydrophobic and hydrophilic particles; if there isn’t, the time decreases where hydrophobic particles stick to one another and increases in the case of adhesion of hydrophilic particles.

Beneficiation of fluorspar by column flotation
Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, 2000The amenability of column flotation for the beneficiation of fluorspar was investigated, and the overall performance of the column flotation was compared to the performance of the existing conventional flotation cells at the plant. It was established that improved grades and recoveries could be obtained by adopting column technology.

Flow characterization of a flotation column
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1989AbstractThe flow characteristics of a froth flotation column have been experimentally studied using air and aqueous surfactant solutions without the presence of solids. The hold‐up behaviours of the bubbly and the froth zones of the column were linked together using the drift‐flux model.

Dynamic model of a flotation column
Minerals Engineering, 2000A linear multivariable model for a flotation column is derived from process analysis and experimental data. The data have been taken from a pilot-scale column (height 720 cm; diameter 5.1 cm) with all necessary instrumentation installed. The flotation column was operated in a water-air system.

Developments in the control of flotation columns
International Journal of Mineral Processing, 1988Abstract The methods used currently for the control of flotation columns are summarised. The major deficiency of these methods is that they rely on inaccurate and indirect measurements of slurry-froth interface level and bias flowrate (the net downward flowrate of water through the froth phase).

Minerals Engineering, 1992
Abstract Iron ore producers have come under increasing pressure to reduce the silica content of their concentrates. Many companies are considering reverse froth flotation circuits as a means of achieving the required silica levels. Column flotation is being given serious consideration for this service due to the low capital and operating cost of the ...

Automatic Control of Flotation Columns
2010Since their first commercial application for mineral separation in the early 1980s, flotation columns have become a standard piece of equipment in mineral concentrators particularly for cleaning operations. This chapter presents and discusses the most recent advances in instrumentation and automatic control of flotation columns.
