Removal of Organic Matter by Activated Carbon Columns
Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division, 1974This study shows that the major organic fraction in activated sludge effluent that exhibited a high adsorption in activated carbon columns is a fulvic acid-like material with a molecular weight ranging from approximately 100 - 10,000. A high molecular compound with a molecular weight larger than 50,000 absorbed poorly in carbon columns.

Column Studies of Micropollutant Removal from Wastewater
2014Production of systems for onsite treatment of wastewater is an expanding industry fostering more widespread application of reuse technology. This study evaluated the potential for constructed wetlands to remove micropollutants from industrial and household sources and, thereby, reduce their environmental impact resulting from toxicity, endocrine ...

Entrainment Removal by Raschig Ring Packed Column Separator

Effect of soil permeability on virus removal through soil columns
Applied and Environmental Microbiology, 1981Laboratory experiments were performed on four different soils, using 100 cm long columns, to determine the extent of virus movement when wastewater percolated through the soils at various hydraulic flow rates. Unchlorinated secondary sewage effluent seeded with either poliovirus type 1 (strain LSc) or echovirus type 1 (isolate V239) was continuously ...

Phosphate Removal from Sewage Water by Soil Columns
Journal of Environmental Quality, 1977AbstractPhosphate (PO4‐P) removal from secondary sewage effluent by calcareous sand columns was proportional to the infiltration rate. Phosphate concentrations in drainage from columns, packed with a mixture of sand from recharge basins and sand never previously exposed to sewage water, were below 1 ppm for over 200 days, increased, and finally leveled
