Adsorption and removal of strontium in aqueous solution by synthetic hydroxyapatite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hydroxyapatite (HAP) is a main mineral constituent of bone and tooth and has an outstanding biocompatibility. HAP is a possible sorbent for heavy metals in wastewater due to its high adsorption capacity and low water solubility.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Comparative Study of Different Modelling Approaches for Progressive Collapse Analysis

open access: yesModelling
This paper explores methods of simulating the behaviour of building structures under progressive collapse conditions through alternative models of different levels of structural idealization.

Enhanced toluene removal using granular activated carbon and a yeast strain candida tropicalis in bubble-column bioreactors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The yeast strain Candida tropicalis was used for the biodegradation of gaseous toluene. Toluene was effectively treated by a liquid culture of C. tropicalis in abubble-column bioreactor, and the tolueneremoval efficiency increased with decreasing gas ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Ion Exchange for Nutrient Recovery Coupled with Biosolids-Derived Biochar Pretreatment to Remove Micropollutants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Wastewater, especially anaerobic treatment effluent, contains high ammonia nitrogen (NH4-N) and inorganic orthophosphate (PO4-P), which necessitate additional treatment to meet stringent discharge regulations.

Battery-type column for caesium ions separation using electroactive film of copper hexacyanoferrate nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We reported a novel and compact battery-type column using nanoparticles film of copper hexacyanoferrate (CuHCF NPs film) for sequential removal of Cs from wastewater.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Dynamic analysis of high-strength concrete frame buildings for progressive collapse

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2020
The issue of progressive collapse of two real-scale frame buildings examples (three and six stories) constructed from High-Strength Concrete (HSC with fc` =75 MPa) and Normal-Strength Concrete (NSC with fc` =32 MPa) under central column removal have been

Hydrogen sulfide removal from biogas using chemical absorption technique in packed column reactors [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Environmental Science and Management, 2019
The toxicity and corrosion potential of hydrogen sulfide in raw biogas underlines the need for biogas purification. Several techniques available for removal of hydrogen sulfide from biogas are out of the reach for common end users due to lack of ...
