Pathways of methane removal in the sediment and water column of a seasonally anoxic eutrophic marine basin

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Methane (CH4) is a key greenhouse gas. Coastal areas account for a major proportion of marine CH4 emissions. Eutrophication and associated bottom water hypoxia enhance CH4 production in coastal sediments.

The survey of removal of suspended solids from river at flooding period by plain sedimentation process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The most important of surface sources of water in the large city are rivers. The turbidity and flow rate of rivers is a constantly changing phenomenon in the seasons from year.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Optimizing Cu removal/recovery in a biosorption column [PDF]

open access: yesWater Research, 1997
Biosorption of Cu2+ by Sargassum fluitans seaweed biomass protonated by an acidic wash or loaded with Ca2+ is based on ion exchange. The uptake of Cu2+ is respectively accompanied by a release of either H+ or Ca2+ into the solution phase. The effects of Ca-, H- and HCa-cycles on the performance of a continuous-flow biosorption fixed-bed were ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Response of soil bacterial community and geochemical parameters to cyclic groundwater‐level oscillations in laboratory columns

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, 2020
Groundwater‐level oscillations change geochemical conditions, C cycling processes, and bacterial community composition, and these changes may vary vertically with depth in a soil.

Use of water treatment residuals for colour removal from real textile dye wastewater

open access: yesApplied Water Science, 2020
The use of readily available water treatment residuals (WTR) as a low-cost material for removal of colour from real textile wastewater was investigated. WTR was used in three forms, namely in raw wet form as a coagulant, in the dried form as an adsorbent

Functionalization of chitosan with 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid for the adsorption/collection of uranium in water samples and its determination by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A chitosan resin derivatized with 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid moiety (CCTS-DHBA resin) was newly synthesized for the collection/concentration of trace uranium by using cross-linked chitosan (CCTS) as base material, and the adsorption behavior of uranium as

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Phenol Removal From Synthetic Wastewater by Adsorption Column

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2021
Abstract Adsorption column is used to perform the adsorption experiments of this work using continuous scheme. The operating parameters investigated in this work are; inlet pollutant concentration (10, 30, & 50 mg/L), Liquid hourly space velocity (5, 10, & 15 h−1), and thickness of activated carbon layer (5, 15, & 25 cm).
