High order aberration and straylight evaluation after cataract surgery with implantation of an aspheric, aberration correcting monofocal intraocular lens [PDF]
AIM:To evaluate the quality of vision in respect to high order aberrations and straylight perception after implantation of an aspheric, aberration correcting, monofocal intraocular lens (IOL).METHODS:Twenty-one patients (34 eyes) aged 50 to 83y underwent

Ultraviolet and optical view of galaxies in the Coma Supercluster [PDF]
The Coma supercluster (100 Mpc) offers an unprecedented contiguous range of environments in the nearby Universe. In this paper we present a catalogue of spectroscopically confirmed galaxies in the Coma supercluster detected in the ultraviolet (UV) wavebands.

Background Intrascleral fixation of an intraocular lens (IOL) is used in eyes that lack capsular support. The aim of the study is to determine whether a larger optical diameter IOL will decrease the higher-order aberrations (HOAs) when the haptics are ...

Validation of Mahajan's formula for scaling ocular higher-order aberrations by pupil size
Purpose: Zernike polynomials for describing ocular higher order aberrations are affected by pupil aperture. The current study aimed to validate Mahajan's formula for scaling Zernike polynomials by pupil size.

Design Considerations for Large Detector Arrays on Submillimeter-wave Telescopes [PDF]
The emerging technology of large (~ 10,000 pixel) submillimeter-wave bolometer arrays presents a novel optical design problem---how can such arrays be fed by diffraction-limited telescope optics where the primary mirror is less than 100,000 wavelengths ...

Quasi-static aberrations induced by laser guide stars in adaptive optics [PDF]
Laser Guide Star Adaptive Optics (LGS AO) systems use the return from an artificial guide star to measure the wavefront aberrations in the direction of the science object.

Optical Observations of Serendipitous Exosat Sources in the Coma Cluster
A ∼7 hour observation of the central part of the Coma Cluster of galaxies has been performed with the EXOSAT LE telescopes and CMA detectors. Five serendipitous sources are detected within the inner 35 arcmin radius of the field. Optical spectroscopy demonstrates that at least three of these are background AGN not associated with the cluster.

Methods of optimizing X-ray optical prescriptions for wide-field applications [PDF]
We are working on the development of a method for optimizing wide-field X-ray telescope mirror prescriptions, including polynomial coefficients, mirror shell relative displacements, and (assuming 4 focal plane detectors) detector placement along the ...
