Bath Vibration During Open Eye Formation in a Physical Model of a Steelmaking Ladle
Using a physical model, this study shows that vibration measurements reliably predict open eye size in steelmaking ladles, offering a practical alternative to visual monitoring. Vessel vibrations stabilize faster than the open eye, except at high frequencies near the bottom.

A computed‐tomography method using full‐rotation rocking curves is developed to characterize 100 keV X‐ray beams from lapped Si(111) crystals, revealing systematic wavelength broadening while maintaining constant angular divergence in DuMond space.Lapping the surfaces of Si(111) crystals in a double‐crystal monochromator (DCM) has recently been shown ...

Global meta‐analysis reveals urban‐associated behavioural differences among wild populations
Urbanization drives rapid phenotypic change, yet broad patterns of behavioural responses remain unclear. Using a global phylogenetic meta‐analysis, we show urban populations exhibit increased boldness, aggression, exploration and activity—especially in birds—highlighting consistent behavioural shifts and revealing major taxonomic gaps that limit our ...

Deep blueprint: A literature review and guide to automated image classification for ecologists
A practical, literature‐grounded review that gives ecologists a clear, modular workflow for deep learning image classification. With code, GUIs and a novel deep sea case study (automated deep sea biotope classification) it lowers technical barriers and provides a usable blueprint for accelerating, standardising, and scaling ecological image analysis ...

Dutch dilemma: Housing prices and flood risk exposure
Abstract This article studies the impact of flood risk exposure on housing prices in a major river delta. Analyzing 1.8 million property transactions from 1998 to 2023 in the Netherlands, we find an average price discount of 1.1%. We observe considerable heterogeneity in price effects driven by exposure intensity, institutional settings that vary ...

Summary Modernising the European Union’s plant variety registration system is critical to enabling the development and adoption of sustainable, climate‐resilient varieties aligned with the EU Farm‐to‐Fork Strategy. However, the current system is outdated and under increasing pressure. While legislative reform is underway, key points of divergence among
