Development of high-efficiency oxy-fuel IGCC system

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2016
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is regarded as a countermeasure for global warming, but introduction of conventional CCS system deteriorates thermal efficiency of power station. To find out its solution, a project has started by NEDO to develop the High-

Thermodynamic optimization of combined cycles

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, 2005
In the present lecture, thermodynamic analysis of cogeneration plants has been described in details by considering the economic parameters. The aim of the new methodology is the minimum availability loss and cost. An application of the method to a steam injected gas turbine plant is being presented as the case study.

Thermochemical cycle analysis using linked CECS72 and HYDRGN computer programs [PDF]

open access: yes
A combined thermochemical cycle analysis computer program was designed. Input to the combined program is the same as input to the thermochemical cycle analysis program except that the extent of the reactions need not be specified. The combined program is

Factors influencing the propensity to cycle to work [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper describes the development of a mode choice model for the journey to work with special emphasis on the propensity to cycle. The model combines revealed preference (RP) and stated preference (SP) data to form a very large and comprehensive model.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Energy Conversion Alternatives Study (ECAS), Westinghouse phase 1. Volume 5: Combined gas-steam turbine cycles [PDF]

open access: yes
The energy conversion efficiency of gas-steam turbine cycles was investigated for selected combined cycle power plants. Results indicate that it is possible for combined cycle gas-steam turbine power plants to have efficiencies several point higher than ...

Scheduling of Multiple Chillers in Trigeneration Plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The scheduling of both absorption cycle and vapour compression cycle chillers in trigeneration plants is investigated in this work. Many trigeneration plants use absorption cycle chillers only but there are potential performance advantages to be gained ...

The zinc finger domains of PARP‐1 are selectively and potently inhibited by the Au(I)‐based drugs sodium aurothiomalate and aurothioglucose

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
PARP‐1 is a key enzyme in the DNA damage response, and its inhibition induces cancer cell death via synthetic lethality. Au(I)‐based drugs, such as aurothioglucose and sodium aurothiomalate, block PARP‐1's DNA‐dependent activity by targeting its zinc finger domains.
