A Novel Decomposition and Coordination Approach for Large Day-Ahead Unit Commitment With Combined Cycle Units

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2018
Day-Ahead Unit Commitment (UC) is an important problem faced by Independent System Operators (ISOs). Midcontinent ISO as the largest ISO in US, solves a complicated UC problem involving over 45,000 buses and 1,400 generation resources.

Thermoeconomic Evaluation of Integrated Solar Combined Cycle Systems (ISCCS)

open access: yesEntropy, 2014
Three alternatives for integrating a solar field with the bottoming cycle of a combined cycle plant are modeled: parabolic troughs with oil at intermediate and low cycle pressures and Fresnel linear collectors at low cycle pressure.

Characteristics of the Limit Cycle of a Reciprocating Quantum Heat Engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
When a reciprocating heat engine is started it eventually settles to a stable mode of operation. The approach of a first principle quantum heat engine toward this stable limit cycle is studied.

Pressure gain combustion advantage in land-based electric power generation

open access: yesJournal of the Global Power and Propulsion Society, 2017
This article evaluates the improvement in gas turbine combined cycle power plant efficiency and output via pressure gain combustion (PGC). Ideal and real cycle calculations are provided for a rigorous assessment of PGC variants (e.g., detonation and ...

RAD50 missense variants differentially affect the DNA damage response and mitotic progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
RAD50 incorporates into the MRN complex and initiates the DNA damage response. Furthermore, RAD50 promotes mitotic progression. RAD50 missense variants capable of forming an MRN complex supported the DNA damage response and mitotic features to different extents in complementation experiments, indicating these functions are separable and might impact ...

Performance Comparison between Steam Injected Gas Turbine and Combined Cycle during Frequency Drops

open access: yesEnergies, 2015
Single-shaft gas turbine and its cycles are sensitive to frequency drops and, therefore, sudden change loads or large frequency dips might affect their stability.

Soot and the Combined Cycle Boiler [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 1A: Gas Turbines, 1979
Liquid-fueled gas turbines can produce serious steam generator fouling in combined cycle applications and other waste heat recovery systems as a result of combustion system generated soot particles. In addition, standard soot blowing practices are not always compatible with the advanced, compact matrix designs sometimes required for minimum package ...

Thermal Protection System and Thermal Management for Combined-Cycle Engine: Review and Prospects

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Combined-cycle engine is a potential propulsion system for hypersonic aircraft. To ensure long-term, normal operation of combined-cycle engine under the harsh environment of high thermal load, it is of great significance to study the thermal protection ...

Effect of Cycle Frequency on High Temperature Oxidation Behavior of Alumina-forming Coatings Used for Industrial Gas Turbine Blades [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Oxidation kinetics of platinum modified aluminide and overlay coatings on nickel base superalloys were investigated. Isothermal oxidation tests were carried out at 1050°C in synthetic air. Cyclic oxidation tests were performed with 2 cycle frequencies :

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.
