Combined natural and forced convection in a horizontal porous channel

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1984
This paper investigates analytically and numerically a mixed convection in a horizontal porous channel, assuming the free convection currents to be due to a horizontal temperature gradient. The analytical investigation is by a perturbation analysis and the numerical one by the finite- difference successive over-relaxation technique.

Combined forced and natural convection flow for the wedge geometry

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1965
Abstract This paper considers simultaneously the phenomena of forced and natural flow effects over an isothermal wedge. The analysis is restricted to situations in which the natural convection effects may be considered as a perturbation of the purely forced flow situation.

Combined Natural and Forced Convective Heat Transfer In Spherical Annuli

Journal of Heat Transfer, 1984
This paper presents numerical finite difference solutions of combined natural and forced convective heat transfer in spherical annuli. The flow is assumed to enter the annulus through a port in the bottom of the outer sphere and exit through a diametrically opposite port. The spheres are isothermal and at different temperatures.

Combined Natural- and Forced-Convection Between Parallel Vertical Walls

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1980
Regular perturbation techniques are employed to further investigate the nature of the known equations governing fully developed forced and free convective flow between heated parallel walls. Particular attention is given to the solutions near the critical Rayleigh numbers, at which infinite flow rates are predictedby linear theory, and some tentative ...

Combined natural and forced convection heat transfer from horizontal cylinders to water

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1973
Abstract Experimental data for convective heat transfer from horizontal cylinders (diameter approximately 1 2 in.) to water in crossflow have been obtained. It is shown that these data can be relegated to four zones, depending upon the value of the ratio GfRf−2, where Gf and Rf are the Grashof and Reynolds numbers, respectively, with ...

Physical Modeling of Combined Forced and Natural Convection in Wet Geothermal Formations

Journal of Heat Transfer, 1976
Wet geothermal formations or reservoirs are of great current interest as a new energy source. Such formations have the potential for large quantities of energy at temperatures of interest for power production and other uses. In these reservoirs the ground water usually contains dissolved solids in such high concentration as to pose a serious disposal ...

Local Collocation Approach for Solving Turbulent Combined Forced and Natural Convection Problems

Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2011
AbstractAn application of the meshless Local Radial Basis Function Collocation Method (LRBFCM) in solution of incompressible turbulent combined forced and natural convection is for the first time explored in the present paper. The turbulent flow equations are described by the low-Re number к – ε model with Launder and Sharma and Abe et al.

Combined Natural and Forced Convection Hydromagnetic Flow in Vertical Channels

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1969
AbstractThe combined natural and forced convection fully developed flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting fluid with and without temperature dependent heat sources in a vertical channel has been studied under the influence of transverse applied magnetic field and external circuit.

An experimental investigation into forced, natural and combined forced and natural convective heat transfer from stationary isothermal circular disks

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1995
Experimental heat transfer data are presented and dimensionless correlations developed for forced, natural and combined assisting forced and natural convection for heated stationary isothermal circular disks over wide ranges of the Reynolds, Rayleigh and modified Reynolds numbers, respectively. Experiments with air were performed for a variety of disks

Combined forced and natural convection with low-speed air flow over horizontal cylinders

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1970
This article describes experimental work on the mixed convection régime with flow normal to electrically heated cylinders. The forcing velocities used were in the range 0·0085–3 ft./sec (i.e. 10−2 < Ref < 45) and temperature differences in the range 30°C to 200°C (i.e.
