Combined Forced- and Natural-Convection Heat Transfer in Horizontally CounterRotating Eccentric and Concentric Cylinders

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A: Applications, 2007
The present investigation focuses on the numerical simulation of mixed-convection heat transfer in a horizontal annulus configuration. The flow is set to operate in the laminar regime under steady-state condition. A counterrotating cylinder arrangement is considered while the inner cylinder is heated.

Combined natural and forced convection hydromagnetic flow between electrically conducting walls

Applied Scientific Research, 1964
The combined natural- and forced convection flow of a viscous, electrically conducting liquid between parallel electrically conducting walls, in the presence of a transverse magnetic field is analysed. The walls are taken to be at temperatures linearly varying along their lengths.

Combined forced and natural convection heat transfer in a deep lid-driven cavity flow

International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 1996
Abstract In this study, we describe the combined forced and natural convection (also known as mixed-convection) heat transfer process within a recirculating flow in an insulated lid-driven cavity of rectangular cross section (150 mm × 450 mm) and depth varying between 150 mm and 600 mm.

Large-eddy simulation of combined forced and natural convection in a vertical plane channel

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2007
Abstract A combined forced and natural convective flow between two vertical plates with different temperatures is studied using large eddy simulation. The numerical simulations were performed with a Grashof number of Gr  = 9.6 × 10 5 and Reynolds number of Re τ  = 150 (based on the wall friction velocity and half channel width).

An experimental assessment of the evaporation correlations for natural, forced and combined convection regimes

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2011
In the present study, the applicability of widely used evaporation models (Dalton approach-based correlations) is experimentally investigated for natural, forced, and combined convection regimes. A series of experimental measurements are carried out over a wide range of water temperatures and air velocities for 0.01 ≤ Gr/Re2 ≤ 100 in a heated ...

Combined natural and forced convection between parallel walls: Developing flow at higher Rayleigh numbers

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1984
Abstract The well-known, fourth-order, ordinary differential equation, governing vertical fully developed convection between parallel vertical walls, is discussed in the light of numerical solutions and perturbation expansions in terms of the Eckert number.

Thermal performance of elliptical pin fin heat sink under combined natural and forced convection

Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 2013
Abstract In this paper, the effects of design parameters have been experimentally investigated for the air side thermal performance under mixed (combined natural and forced) convection of the fully shrouded elliptical pin fin heat sinks and the values of optimum design parameters are sought.

LES of Combined Forced and Natural Turbulent Convection in a Vertical Slot

2006
The present paper reports a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of turbulent combined forced and natural convection between two vertical parallel plates maintained at two different temperatures. For the subgrid-scale (SGS) model, both a Smagorinsky eddy viscosity model (SM) and a dynamic eddy viscosity model (DM) with a constant SGS Prandtl number are ...

Effects of combined natural and forced convection on thermal explosion in a spherical reactor

Combustion and Flame, 2013
Abstract The effects of combined natural and forced convection on thermal explosion in a spherical reactor are studied. Upward natural convection arises from internal heating caused by a chemical reaction, whilst downward forced convection is driven by injecting fluid at the top and removing it at the bottom of the reactor. It is shown that explosive

Experiments on Heat Transfer From Spheres Including Combined Natural and Forced Convection

Journal of Heat Transfer, 1960
Experiments on heat transfer between spheres and air flow were carried out in the range of Reynolds numbers from 3.5 to 1.44 × 105 and Grashof numbers from 1 to 105. Empirical formulas for forced, natural, and combined convection are presented and comparison made with other investigations.
