Unsteady aerodynamic flow field analysis of the space shuttle configuration. Part 1: Orbiter aerodynamics [PDF]
An analysis of the steady and unsteady aerodynamics of the space shuttle orbiter has been performed. It is shown that slender wing theory can be modified to account for the effect of Mach number and leading edge roundness on both attached and separated ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Evaluation of thermal and mechanical loading effects on the structural behavior of a SiC/titanium composite [PDF]
Composite specimens of titanium-15-3 matrix reinforced with continuous SCS-6 silicon carbide fibers were tested under a variety of thermal and mechanical loadings. A combined experimental/finite element approach was used to estimate the effective in-situ

Monolithic shape-programmable dielectric liquid crystal elastomer actuators
Macroscale robotic systems have demonstrated great capabilities of high speed, precise, and agile functions. However, the ability of soft robots to perform complex tasks, especially in centimeter and millimeter scale, remains limited due to the ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The panel structures of flight vehicles at supersonic or hypersonic speeds are subjected to combined thermal, acoustic, and aerodynamic loads. Because of the combined thermal and acoustic loads, the panel structure may exhibit nonlinear random vibration ...

Analytical method for single pile under V-H-M combined loads in sand
The large-diameter monopiles of offshore wind turbines are always subjected to multiaxial loads. The design criteria for the vertical and lateral bearing behaviors of piles are designed independently, while lots of tests show that the vertical load has a

A procedure for combining acoustically induced and mechanically induced loads (first passage failure design criterion) [PDF]
The combined load statistics are developed by taking the acoustically induced load to be a random population, assumed to be stationary. Each element of this ensemble of acoustically induced loads is assumed to have the same power spectral density (PSD ...
