On combinations of load effects
Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1990Abstract A procedure for a probabilistic evaluation of load-effect combinations is proposed. It is based on simplified representations of the time-dependent responses of a structure to individual loadings by marginal curves and on the extreme magnitudes of responses.

<p>A universal theory on combining loads in structural design is missing. The current codes include three methods: dependent, semi-dependent and independent. These methods are mutually contradicting and inconsistently applied: The paper presents arguments that the structural loads must always be combined dependently.

Stochastic Analysis of Load Combination
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1998This paper reviews the methods for combining loads idealized as Poisson processes. Hasofer's method for combining a Poisson square wave load with a Poisson impulsive load is extended to the case of a combination of one square wave load with an arbitrary number of impulsive loads. The problem of considering the effects of dead load is addressed.

Load Combinations and Load Factors for Construction
Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, 1996There is a current ASCE Standards Committee activity to develop a standard that provides engineers and designers with minimum recommended design loads for construction. This paper reports on the development of load combinations and load factors (for strength design) for this load standard.

Probability Based Load Criteria: Load Factors and Load Combinations
Journal of the Structural Division, 1982This is the second of two papers that describe a study conducted to develop probability-based load factors and load combinations suitable for use with common construction materials and technologies. In the second phase of the study, described in this paper, the checking equation format for the proposed load criteria was selected, and the load factors ...

The Interface Crack Under Combined Loading
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1988The interface crack subjected to a combined tension-compression and shear loading is considered in the Comninou formulation, which by properly incorporating contact zones at the crack tips avoids contradictions, such as overlapping of material. It is shown that the resulting integral equation can be solved exactly.

Abstract This paper presents a study of load combination especially the simplified method with reduced combination values which is used in many codes. The study is performed through calculation of combination values according to probabilistic principles.

On the bounding of limit multipliers forĀ combinedĀ loading
Proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2009In the framework of classical plasticity, even when limit multipliers and collapse mechanisms associated with different loads independently acting on a solid or structure are known, not much can be inferred on the limit multiplier of the combined loading.

Simplified load combination factor for snow load
Structural Safety, 1993Abstract The load combination factor for snow load is formulated by a simplified development based on Turkstra's rule for load combination and the Gumbel distribution for the snow load model. The probability of exceedance expression is compared with an existing probabilistic load model.
