How combined trip purposes are associated with transport choice for short distance trips. Results from a cross-sectional study in the Netherlands. [PDF]
One way to increase physical activity is to stimulate a shift from car use to walking or cycling. In single-purpose trips, purpose was found to be an important predictor of transport choice. However, as far as known, no studies have been conducted to see

Analysis of reaction dynamics at RHIC in a combined parton/hadron transport approach [PDF]
We introduce a transport approach which combines partonic and hadronic degrees of freedom on an equal footing and discuss the resulting reaction dynamics.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

INTERMODAL TRANSPORT AND STANDARDISATION [PDF]
Almost gone unnoticed, a new era started in rail freight transport. Whereas the conventional “wagonload” rail freight transport stagnates, road-rail Combined Transport (CT) was able to register high growth rates.

Emergence of superfluid transport in a dynamical system of ultracold atoms
The dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate is studied theoretically in a combined periodic plus harmonic external potential. Different dynamical regimes of stable and unstable collective dipole and Bloch oscillations are analysed in terms of a quantum ...

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

In this work, we demonstrate the correspondence between first principle calculations and experimental measurements of size effects on thermal transport in SiGe alloys. Transient thermal grating (TTG) is used to measure the effective thermal conductivity.

Combined electrical transport and capacitance spectroscopy of a ${\mathrm{MoS_2-LiNbO_3}}$ field effect transistor [PDF]
We have measured both the current-voltage ($I_\mathrm{SD}$-$V_\mathrm{GS}$) and capacitance-voltage ($C$-$V_\mathrm{GS}$) characteristics of a $\mathrm{MoS_2-LiNbO_3}$ field effect transistor.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
