A control orientated combustion model.

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2012
Abstract The control of Internal Combustion (IC) engines is dominated by conventional controllers that regulate the engine operating condition to set-points, which are usually derived from steady-state testing. A significant issue is that IC engines can spend much of their time operating under transient conditions, which take the engine away from ...

Influence of Eddy-Generation Mechanism on the Characteristic of On-Source Fire Whirl

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
This paper numerically examines the characterisation of fire whirl formulated under various entrainment conditions in an enclosed configuration. The numerical framework, integrating large eddy simulation and detailed chemistry, is constructed to assess ...

Optimization of a Heavy-Duty Hydrogen-Fueled Internal Combustion Engine Injector for Optimum Performance and Emission Level

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Hydrogen is a promising zero-carbon fuel for internal combustion engines; however, the geometric optimization of injectors for low-pressure direct-injection (LPDI) systems under lean-burn conditions remains underexplored.

A dynamic combustion model for supersonic turbulent combustion

open access: yes, 2023
Supersonic combustion plays a vital role in various applications, including scramjets, dual-mode ramjets, and pulse detonation engines. However, the flame characteristics can vary significantly, depending on the application. To model supersonic combustion, large eddy simulation coupled with a partially stirred reactor (PaSR) is commonly used.

Detailed Operational Mapping of a Grate Fired Biomass Combustion Plant for Improved Combustion Process Control

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
Biomass combustion plants in Norway are facing stricter emission regulations and lower profitability, mostly due to low energy prices. Hence, performance optimization through improved combustion process control and/or retrofitting becomes very attractive

Interpreting dissolved gases in transformer oil: A new method based on the analysis of labelled fault data

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2021
In this contribution, a new dissolved gas analysis (DGA) method combining key gases and ratio approaches for power transformer fault diagnostic is presented. It is based on studying subsets and uses the five main hydrocarbon gases including hydrogen (H2),

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

A Generalised Series Model for the LES of Premixed and Non-Premixed Turbulent Combustion

open access: yesEnergies
In this study, the generality and prediction accuracy of a generalised series model for the large eddy simulation of premixed and non-premixed turbulent combustion is explored. The model is based on the Taylor series expansion of the chemical source term
