Sodium phase-conjugate oscillator in a combusting environment
Optics Letters, 1987We report on the use of a sodium-seeded flame as an amplifying phase conjugator. The environment is unique in that a number density of 10(16) cm(-3) is maintained despite a lateral dimension of 1 mm. We combine two of these optically pumped flames to form a phase-conjugate resonator. Finally, we observe oscillation that is due to the action of a single

Active control of combustion oscillations for premixed combustion systems
Journal de Physique IV (Proceedings), 2002Methane premixed flame is studied extensively using a swirl burner and a swirl combustion chamber. First the fundamental study for the flame properties is performed for the swirl burner. Flame configuration is analyzed by a high speed photography and Schlieren system. Then a control system is set up using MATLAB, Simulink, PPC Controller board, dSPACE,

Control of Combustion Oscillations by Forced Oscillation of Part of the Fuel Supply
Combustion Science and Technology, 1995Abstract Naturally occurring oscillations in ducted premixed flames have been controlled by imposed oscillation of the fuel. The flames were stabilised behind a bluff-body and a step with methane as the main fuel and kerosene as the oscillated secondary fuel and with heat release rates of up to 150 kW.

Modeling and Control of Combustion Oscillations
Volume 2: Turbo Expo 2005, 2005Clean combustion, with low levels of pollutants, can be achieved by burning lean and premixed. Unfortunately, these are just the conditions that cause self-excited oscillations which can become so intense that they break the combustor. Many gas-fuelled power stations have suffered damage in this way and been unable to achieve their designed power and ...

Acoustic oscillations in the combustion of an aerosol
Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 1989Thermal acoustic vibrations can be sustained during combustion as a result of an external heat supply, a flow of internal energy, and a flow of kinetic energy [I, 2]. Such vibrations occur in the propagation of flames in gas mixtures and aerosols [4]. In [5], acoustic vibrations were seen in the combustion of an aerosol near the closed end of a firebox.

Combustion oscillations in a ducted burner [PDF]
Unsteady combustion, confined within a duct, is a poorly understood and incompletely documented phenomenon. This is particularly true of the violent, low frequency combustion oscillation encountered in gas turbine reheat systems, commonly referred to as reheat buzz.

An intriguing oscillating combustion phenomenon
2012Strobes are pyrotechnic compositions that emit bright flashes of white or colored light at regular time intervals. The strobe effect has applications in various fields, most notably in the fireworks industry and in the military area (signaling – missile decoys – crowd control).
