A model for premixed combustion oscillations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Combustion oscillations are receiving renewed research interest due to increasing application of lean premix (LPM) combustion to gas turbines. A simple, nonlinear model for premixed combustion is described; it was developed to explain experimental results and to provide guidance for developing active control schemes based on nonlinear concepts.

Symptoms of Combustion Oscillation and their Detection

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series B, 2004
Monitoring of OH chemiluminescence through an optical fiber was demonstrated to be a useful method in detecting self-excited combustion oscillations. OH chemiluminescence intensity detected by the optical fiber showed mostly excellent agreement with those obtained by high speed CCD camera measurements when combustion oscillations were strong.

Experimental Investigation on Knock Characteristics from Pre-Chamber Gas Engine Fueled by Hydrogen

open access: yesEnergies
Hydrogen-fueled engines require large values of the excess air ratio in order to achieve high thermal efficiency. A low value of this coefficient promotes knocking combustion.

Experimental Study of Combustion Fluctuation Reduction Using In-Cylinder Pressure Estimation in Gasoline Engine

open access: yesJIRAE (International Journal of Industrial Research and Applied Engineering), 2018
Gasoline engines needs to reduce its negative emission waste and raise its thermal efficiency. Previous studies have shown an improvement of engines by regulating the ignition timing and retaining the engine at certain air-to-fuel ratio.

Suppression Mechanisms of Stratified Jet-in-Crossflow on Thermoacoustic Instability and NOx Emissions in Premixed Combustors

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The premixed combustion of a gas turbine is prone to thermoacoustic oscillation, which affects the safety of combustion systems. This study experimentally investigated the suppression mechanism of a stratified jet-in-crossflow on the thermoacoustic ...

Numerical Analysis of Pulse Decay Characteristics in Solid Rocket Motors for Different Finocyl Grain Configurations

open access: yesAerospace
Combustion instability is an abnormal working state that often occurs in advanced solid rocket motors (SRMs), which can arouse pressure oscillations, increase the risk of mission failure, and even cause structural damage.

Utilization of Combustion-Driven Oscillations [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1963
The possible applications of combustion-driven oscillations fall into two categories. The first category includes applications that are related to the combustion process itself, such as those concerned with the possibility of alterlog space heat-release rate, combustion efficiency, heat transfer to surfaces, and agglomeration of solid or liquid ...
