Investigation of Split Diesel Injections in Methanol/Diesel Dual-Fuel Combustion in an Optical Engine

open access: yesEnergies
Methanol is a promising alternative fuel due to its wide availability of raw materials, mature production processes, and low production cost. However, because of the low cetane number, methanol must include a more reactive fuel to assist with combustion ...

Plasmonic Nanomachines: Creating Local Potential Gradients and Motions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Plasmonic nanomachines can generate optical, thermal, and chemical potential gradients to drive directional rectilinear, rotational, and twisting motions at the nanometer scale. The integration of multimodal plasmonic forces with functional materials and programmed structural distortions enables precise spatiotemporal actuation, thereby providing a ...

STRONTIUM ISOTOPE SYSTEMATICS AND GEOCHEMISTRY OF COAL UTILIZATION BY-PRODUCTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Coal combustion for energy generation creates large quantities of solid coal utilization by-products (CUB), including fly ash, bottom ash, and flue gas desulfurization products. These materials are either used in environmental and industrial applications

Exploring the Potential of Zero‐Dimensional Carbon Nanomaterials in Photoluminescent, Electrochemiluminescent and Electrochemical Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Zero‐dimensional carbon nanomaterials are presented as multifunctional platforms linking structure, property, and sensing performance. Surface engineering and heteroatom doping modulate electron‐transfer and luminescent behavior, enabling electrochemical, photoluminescent, and electrochemiluminescent detection. Fundamental design principles, analytical

Mass Spectrometric Investigation of the Influence of Water Vapour and Oxygen on Gas‐Phase Reactions of Aluminium Acetylacetonate

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The gas‐phase decomposition of Al(acac)3 is investigated under inert, oxygen, and water‐containing conditions. Water is found to promote selective ligand removal and suppress hydrocarbon formation, while oxygen induces faster, less selective decomposition pathways.

Influence of Carbon Nanoparticles on Electrically Induced Wear of Grease‐Lubricated Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
When an electric current enters a pair of rubbing surfaces, enormous damage takes place. In this research, how such damage occurs in the presence of protective grease and the mitigation with added carbon nanoparticles, were investigated. It was discovered that those particles regulate transport and interfacial electrical stability of the grease ...

Numerical Investigation on the Effect of the Ignition Changes on the Combustion Process of a Free Piston Engine Generator Through Computational Fluid Dynamics

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To address the challenges of short dwell time near top dead center (TDC) and uneven heat release, this paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the effects of different ignition schemes on combustion characteristics, flame formation and development ...

High‐Sensitivity Terahertz Gas Sensing Enabled by Undercut Metal‐Dielectric‐Metal Metamaterial

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A terahertz (THz) metamaterial gas sensor is demonstrated using a metal–dielectric–metal (MDM) absorber with an undercut dielectric layer, which enlarges the gas‐replaced volume and strengthens refractive‐index perturbation of the resonant mode. A reflection dip at 0.766 THz is observed, and acetone–nitrogen tests yield concentration‐dependent shifts ...

Particle sizing in rocket motor studies utilizing hologram image processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
A technique of obtaining particle size information from holograms of combustion products is described. The holograms are obtained with a pulsed ruby laser through windows in a combustion chamber.
