Chiral‐Encoded Pt‐Ir Surfaces as Apparent Spin Filter for Enhanced Oxygen Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Chiral‐Induced Spin Selectivity (CISS) effect is employed in chiral‐encoded mesoporous Platinum‐Iridium (Pt‐Ir) electrocatalysts to enhance the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). A break in spin symmetry leads to a substantial antagonistic difference in activity (>200%) when comparing two enantiomorphs of the same electrode.

Fire retardancy of bis[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] phosphate modified poly(methyl methacrylate) nanocomposites containing layered double hydroxide and montmorillonite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Copolymer nanocomposites were prepared by suspension copolymerization of bis[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] phosphate and methyl methacrylate, together with bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate layered double hydroxide and a montmorillonite, Cloisite 93A.

Self-propagating High temperature Synthesis (SHS) in the high activation energy regime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We derive the precise limit of SHS in the high activation energy scaling suggested by B.J. Matkowksy-G.I. Sivashinsky in 1978 and by A. Bayliss-B.J. Matkowksy-A.P. Aldushin in 2002. In the time-increasing case the limit turns out to be the Stefan problem

Safety of Sodium‐Ion Batteries: Evaluation and Perspective from Component Materials to Cells, Modules, and Packs

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review provides a bottom‐up evaluation of sodium‐ion battery safety, linking material degradation mechanisms, cell engineering parameters, and module/pack assembly. It emphasizes that understanding intrinsic material stability and establishing coordinated engineering control across hierarchical levels are vital for preventing degradation coupling ...

EU Peatlands: Current Carbon Stocks and Trace Gas Fluxes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Peatlands in Europe has formed a significant sink for atmospheric CO2 since the last glacial maximum. Currently they are estimated to hold ca. 42 Gt carbon in the form of peat and are therefore a considerable component in the European carbon budget.
