Dynamics of the AMPTE artificial comet
Nature, 1986Sweeping the plasma before it, the interplanetary magnetic field quickly penetrated into an initially diamagnetic barium plasma cloud. The field was strongly compressed and extended in the flow direction. Ions accelerated by electric polarization fields formed a visible tail at the rear of the cloud; their recoil balancing the magnetic stresses.

Electron dynamics near diamagnetic regions of comet 67P/Churyumov- Gerasimenko [PDF]
The Rosetta spacecraft detected transient and sporadic diamagnetic regions around comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. In this paper we present a statistical analysis of bulk and suprathermal electron dynamics, as well as a case study of suprathermal ...

Electron and Ion Dynamics of the Solar Wind Interaction with a Weakly Outgassing Comet
International audienceUsing a 3D fully kinetic approach, we disentangle and explain the ion and electron dynamics of the solar wind interaction with a weakly outgassing comet. We show that, to first order, the dynamical interaction is representative of a

Ion composition and dynamics at comet Halley
Nature, 1986The Giotto space probe's ion mass spectrometer has obtained data on the composition and velocity distributions of cometary ions at distances of between 7.5 million and 1300 km from the comet Halley nucleus. Solar wind He(2+) was found throughout the coma, as close as 5000 km, with the He(+) produced by charge exchange being within about 200,000 km.

Dynamical Relation of Meteorids to Comets and Asteroids
Earth, Moon, and Planets, 2004We tested four criteria used for discrimination between asteroidal and cometary type of orbits: Whipple criterion K, Kresak criterion Pe, Tisserand invariant T and aphelion distance Q. To estimate their reliability, all criteria were applied to classify the 2225 orbits of NEAs and 582 orbits of comets, for several epochs spanning the time interval of ...

On the dynamic connection of comets with Uranus
Kinematics and Physics of Celestial Bodies, 2012We consider the connection with Uranus for: (1) 945 near-parabolic comets (the period P > 200 years, the perihelion distance q > 0.1 AU), (2) 1277 Kreutz comets (P > 200 years, q < 0.01 AU), and (3) 414 short-period comets (P < 200 years). It turns out that none of near-parabolic comets passed through Uranus’s activity sphere, none of the Kreutz comets
