The ionospheres and plasma tails of comets

Space Science Reviews, 1977
The paper reviews the current state of knowledge about cometary plasma (type I) tails and ionospheres. Observational statistics for type I tails are examined along with spectroscopic observations of plasma tails, identified ion species in such tails, and the morphology of cometary plasma tails and ionospheres.

New spectroscopic studies of the comet- tail (A2Πi → X2Σ+) system of the 12C18O+ molecule

, 2004
Four bands (with v′ = 2–5 and common v″ = 0) of the comet-tail (A2Πi → X2Σ+) band system were recorded under high resolution by conventional, photographic spectroscopy and their modern analysis was carried out.

Analysis of the Comet-Tail (A2Πi–X2Σ+) Bands of 13C16O+

, 2002
In the electronic emission spectrum of the isotopic carbon monoxide ion 13 C 16 O + molecule, seven bands of the comet-tail ( A 2 Π i – X 2 Σ + ) system have been recorded and analyzed. The spin splitting in most observed lines of the bands 1–0, 2–0, 3–0,

Spectroscopy of N2(+) Meinel bands and CO(+) comet tail bands

, 1986
The N+2[X2 Σ+g(v‘=0)– A 2Πu(v’=5)] Meinel band and the CO+[X 2Σ+(v‘=0)– A 2Π(v’=1,2)] comet tail bands have been measured with Doppler‐limited resolution in a selected ion flow tube (SIFT) apparatus using laser induced charge transfer.
