MMTF: The Maryland-Magellan Tunable Filter
This paper describes the Maryland-Magellan Tunable Filter (MMTF) on the Magellan-Baade 6.5-meter telescope. MMTF is based on a 150-mm clear aperture Fabry-Perot (FP) etalon that operates in low orders and provides transmission bandpass and central ...

High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

A Topology Optimization Framework for the Inverse Design of Nonlinear Mechanical Metamaterials
This work uses topology optimization to design unit cells for mechanical metamaterials with a prescribed nonlinear stress–strain response. The framework adds contact and postbuckling modeling to synthesize microstructures for three highly nonlinear responses, including pseudoductile behavior, monostable with snap‐through buckling, and bistable ...

On Track? Ensuring the Resilience of the Great Lakes Compact [PDF]
The Great Lakes hold about 20 percent of the world's available surface freshwater, and 84 percent of North America's surface freshwater. As a resource, the lakes and their tributaries are invaluable -- providing drinking water for 40 million people and ...

THE CANADA-FRANCE REDSHIFT SURVEY V: Global Properties of the Sample
The photometric and spectroscopic data of the CFRS survey of objects with 17.5 < I_{AB} < 22.5 are combined and analysed. The overall completeness is 85%. The redshift histogram of the sample is presented for 591 field galaxies with secure redshifts. The

This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

„Vremea este aproape”: re-evaluarea limbajului nou-testamentar cu referire la apropierea parusiei
The NT uses plenty of terms or expressions that appear to be expressing the nearness of Christ’s second coming. Beyond the surface reading, however, we find scholars interpreting the event that is to take place soon in various ways.
