Accumulation of macronutrients in cowpea and weeds in competition and under soil water deficit

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2019
The ability of a plant species to succeed in colonization of agroecosystem depends on its efficiency in the use of growth resources even in deficient conditions.

Tropical Spiderwort (Commelina benghalensis L.), Identification and Control

open access: yesEDIS, 1969
Tropical spiderwort is an aggressive weed that produces aerial (above ground) and subterranean (below ground) flowers. This results in viable seed being produced both above and below ground. Tropical spiderwort also possesses the ability to root at the nodes and can be propagated from cut stems.

Strip Crops and Intercrops Outperform Crop Rotations for Weed Management Under Conservation Agriculture in Zimbabwe

open access: yesWeed Research, Volume 66, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT High weed infestation remains a major constraint on crop productivity for smallholder farmers practising Conservation Agriculture (CA). Fewer, more diverse weeds are desirable to reduce competition and provide ecosystem services. Crop diversification can help, but it is not yet clear which species combinations and layouts are most effective ...

Soil Weed Seed Bank Response to Crop Management Practices on Smallholder Farms Across an Agroclimatic Gradient in Zimbabwe

open access: yesAdvances in Agriculture, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Weed seed banks function as subterranean reserves that continuously replenish weed populations, driving future infestations on farms. This study examined how various crop management practices on smallholder farms influence the size and composition of weed seed banks, analyzing farmer‐managed fields across an agroclimatic gradient in Zimbabwe.

Influence of Farming Systems (Organic vs. Conventional) With Crop Rotation and Intercropping on Weed Seedbank in Central Kenya

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Weed seedbanks are a key driver of long‐term weed pressure and are strongly shaped by farming systems, crop rotation, and intercropping. This study evaluated the influence of organic (ORG) and conventional (CONV) farming systems, each managed under high (113–145 kg N·ha−1, 60–83 kg P·ha−1) and low (31–45 kg N·ha−1 and 13–27 kg P·ha−1) fertilization ...
