Comparative Outcomes of Reinforced Tension‐Line Sutures Versus Standard Closure Techniques in Patients Undergoing Laparotomy: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The reinforced tension‐line suture (RTLS) technique distributes mechanical stress more evenly than traditional closure when closing a laparotomy wound, potentially reducing incisional hernia (IH) risk. We aimed to compare outcomes of RTLS versus standard closure techniques in patients undergoing laparotomy. Methods Systematic search

Temporal Trends in Pancreatic Cancer in New South Wales, Australia: A Longitudinal Population‐Based Study of Incidence, Surgery and Survival

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The incidence of pancreatic adenocarcinoma is increasing, as is the proportion of patients undergoing pancreatectomy. This study aimed to identify temporal trends in incidence, survival and pancreatectomy uptake in New South Wales (NSW), in patients aged 50 years and older diagnosed with pancreatic and periampullary cancer ...

When Enzymes Mislead: Assessing the Value of MRCP in Suspected Choledocholithiasis

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The diagnosis of choledocholithiasis (CDL) requires balancing timely intervention against the risks of unnecessary invasive procedures. Although liver function tests (LFTs) are widely used for risk stratification, their static values and short‐term trends remain poorly defined in predicting persistent common bile duct stones.

Fecal Steroids as Tracers of Human Population and Waste Management Practices at the Ancient Maya City of Ucanal, Guatemala

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Geochemical data compiled from dried sediments from three water reservoirs at the ancient Maya city of Ucanal, Petén, Guatemala, reveal low to undetectable fecal biomarker concentrations. These low concentrations may be the result of the aerobic decay of sterols combined with well‐managed waste disposal practices.

The relationship between the cannabinoids and cardiac remodelling: A comprehensive review of pivotal mechanisms and emerging evidence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Cardiac remodelling and fibrosis after myocardial infarction or during chronic diseases, such as arterial and pulmonary hypertension or diabetes mellitus, continue to be the more important prognostic factors in determining survival, and so the search for effective anti‐fibrotic interventions is an important target for research and therapy in cardiology.
