We described the spatial segregation of two species of cetaceans, the common dolphin and the bottlenose dolphin. We also document the first direct observation of interspecific killing of a common dolphin by bottlenose dolphins and of interspecific necrophilia in cetaceans. The study was conducted from 2014 to 2019 in the Ria de Arousa (Northwest Spain).

Helicobacter delphinicola infection and the risk of gastric disease in common bottlenose dolphin
Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2023Gastritis and gastric ulcers are well-recognized conditions in cetaceans; bacteria of the genus Helicobacter are considered the primary cause of these diseases. Dolphins have been shown to be susceptible to infection by at least 2 gastric species of Helicobacter, H. cetorum and H. delphinicola, both of which are closely related to the human pathogen H.

Ammonium urate nephrolithiasis frequently develops in common bottlenose dolphins () managed under human care but is rare in free-ranging common bottlenose dolphins. In other species, the dietary cation-anion difference (DCAD) can affect ammonium urate urolith formation by increasing proton excretion as ammonium ions.

Copulatory Fit of Common Bottlenose Dolphin ( Tursiops truncatus ) Genitalia
The FASEB Journal, 2017Sexual selection is the primary force that drives gross morphological variation of male genitalia in many species. Less information is known about how male and female genitalia fit together during copulation or how sexual selection and mechanical constraints during copulation interact and shape reproductive organs.

Photo-Identification of Common Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in Montenegrin Waters
2020A boat-based, photo-identification survey of common bottlenose dolphins in Montenegrin territorial waters was carried out to create a baseline database and inform future studies on their abundance and distribution. A total of 21 sightings were recorded during 27 outings in the period from May to September 2013, resulting in a total of 73 identified ...

Ecological divergence and speciation in common bottlenose dolphins in the western South Atlantic
Journal of Evolutionary Biology, 2019AbstractCoastal and offshore ecotypes of common bottlenose dolphins have been recognized in the western South Atlantic, and it is possible that trophic niche divergence associated with social interactions is leading them to genetic and phenotypic differentiation.

First description of Rhodococcus equi infection in common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)
Veterinary Research CommunicationsRhodococcus equi is a terrestrial bacterium and a common pathogen in foals (Equus caballus), in which causes pneumonia. This report describes for the first time the infection caused by R. equi in a common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) stranded in the Calabrian coast, Italy.
