Advanced Functional Materials for Marine Energy Utilization

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Materials, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 317-356, May 2026.
Marine renewable energy is an important future clean energy supply. We construct and sort out the material system for marine energy capture and conversion, transmission, storage, and utilization for the first time. ABSTRACT Several features of marine energy, including large reserves, sustainable utilization, environmental friendliness, make it a ...

Panama Canal expansion and shifts in fishing practices: A social‐ecological network approach

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 5, Page 1520-1532, May 2026.
Abstract Species introductions have spiked over the past two centuries due to globalization. These introductions impact ecosystems, but may also have long‐term implications for human communities. In one of the world's hubs for global shipping, the Panama Canal, a recent canal expansion has coincided with an increase in marine fishes entering the ...

The catch of the day: The shortcomings of promoting sustainable seafood consumption in Peru

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study investigates the meaning and application of “catch of the day” in Peru by analyzing 233 news articles and genetically testing 43 fish samples from restaurants. Results show that media frequently use the term as a vague marketing phrase, while genetic testing reveals a 60% mislabeling rate. These findings suggest that “catch of the day” lacks

Fish movements before, during, and after restoration of tidal flow through culverts in two southern Florida USA mangrove creeks

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 2, April–June 2026.
In this study, we implanted transmitters into fishes to track their movements while culverts were installed and creeks were excavated to restore a mangrove forest. Results suggest that fish were not displaced during the restoration and they did not readily utilize the restored creeks once they were completed.

Field‐based evidence of impaired sperm quality associated with conventional farming in two passerine birds

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 2, Page 504-519, April 2026.
The detrimental effects of conventional farming on bird biodiversity are increasingly documented. Despite this, the specific impacts of both organic and conventional farming practices on bird coloration and sperm quality in natural settings remain unexplored. This study aimed to determine whether these farming practices differentially affect body mass,

Feeding rate and feeding frequency affect growth performance of common snook (Centropomus undecimalis) juveniles reared in the laboratory

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2019
The effects of feeding rate and feeding frequency on the growth of laboratory-reared common snook (Centropomus undecimalis) were evaluated. Juveniles with mean±SD weight of 2.55±0.48 g and total length of 6.81±0.48 cm were divided into groups of 20 fish ...

Analysis of the Structure and Genesis of the June 23, 2016, Funing Tornado Based on 100‐Meter‐Scale Numerical Simulation

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 33, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Structural characteristics of an EF4 tornado in Funing were reproduced through numerical simulation with a hectometer‐scale resolution. Results demonstrate that the tornado initiated in the mid‐ to upper‐levels, with the stretching term of the vorticity equation playing a dominant role throughout its development. ABSTRACT Tornadoes are characterized by
