Overload Control for Machine Type Communications with Femtocells

2012 IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Fall), 2012
In this paper, we propose the group-based time control mechanism to improve the network overload and delay performance in the femtocell-based machine type communications (MTC) networks. The MTC network may be congested if numerous MTC devices concurrently deliver messages to the MTC server. Femtocells can solve the radio access network (RAN) congestion,

The Metaphysics of Communications Overload

2014
This paper enquires into the nature of the act of communication between two or more persons. It proposes that such acts are best conceived of as moral, as related to the performative consequences of the acts in question. Given this, the paper then asks what applicability phrases like ‘overload’ might have, and whether quantitative techniques have a ...

The Rate and Delay in Overload: An Investigation of Communication Overload and Channel Synchronicity on Identification and Job Satisfaction

Journal of Applied Communication Research, 2011
This study investigates the relationship between communication overload and uses of diverse communication channels in terms of their level of synchronicity. Emphasis on the synchronicity of any given channel reveals how temporal elements (i.e., rate and processing time) play an important role in perceptions of communication load.

Overload of Technological Connections for Communicating at Work

2018
Connection has become an essential component of work. It appears to be an essential resource for efficiency and rapidity, as well as for accessibility and transmission of information. However, it may have harmful effects on individuals, teams or organizations because of its continuous nature.

Cognitive overload and communication in two healthcare settings

Communication & Medicine, 2004
The confluence of organizational social interaction and cognitive information processing constraints create 'noisy' conditions in institutionalized settings. Attentional and memory limitations always influence the ability of participants to comprehend each other's communication.

Wideband communication system sensitivity to overloading quantization noise

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2003
The performance of analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) is usually characterized in their granular region, by adopting amplitude-limited sine-wave testing signals. However, some applications, like digital telecommunication systems, often require the conversion of signals which noticeably differ from sine-waves and which may introduce ADC overloading ...

RAN overload control for Machine Type Communications in LTE

2012 IEEE Globecom Workshops, 2012
In Radio Access Network (RAN) overload situations, more access attempts are made to the system than the system can handle. In particular, Machine Type Communication (MTC) devices are foreseen as potential source of overload in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks. In this paper, we study overload scenarios caused by MTC traffic in LTE and investigate

MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS IN THE FACE OF INFORMATION OVERLOAD

Economics and Management
The modern digital landscape is characterized by a critical level of information overload, when the daily volume of data reaches hundreds of terabytes, and the consumer is faced with 6-10 thousand advertising and information stimuli. This phenomenon causes cognitive exhaustion, media fatigue, a reduction in attention span to 6-8 seconds, increased ...

Differential bandwidth and equivalent bandwidth for overloaded multiuser communications

International Symposium onInformation Theory, 2004. ISIT 2004. Proceedings., 2004
This paper presents the basic CDMA model with jointly optimal signature sequences and power allotment for overloaded multiuser communications. The linear minimum mean-squared-error (LMMSE) receivers are being employed. It is shown that the Welch bound equality (WBE) sequences are optimal sequences for equal SINR requirements.
