Integration of Satellites in 5G through LEO Constellations

open access: yes, 2017
The standardization of 5G systems is entering in its critical phase, with 3GPP that will publish the PHY standard by June 2017. In order to meet the demanding 5G requirements both in terms of large throughput and global connectivity, Satellite ...

Mechanoluminescence from Visible to Second Near‐Infrared Region Based on Sr3Sn2O7 Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a defect‐tolerant derived layered perovskite Sr3Sn2O7: Ln3+ system exhibiting exceptional multimodal luminescence across 450–1600 nm. The material integrates photoluminescence (PL), persistent luminescence (PersL), X‐ray excited luminescence (XEL), and intense mechanoluminescence (ML) with 30‐fold higher ML intensity than PersL for ...

Flat Optics for Polarization Structure Engineering from 2D to 3D

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurfaces have transformed polarization control by enabling precise engineering of complex polarization structures. This review explores their evolution from generating 2D polarization structures to shaping fully 3D polarization fields. By unlocking the unprecedented control over the polarization and spectral information of light, these advances ...

Satellite Laser Communication

open access: yes, 2010
We applied Chu and Hogg’s key cloud attenuation results to Italsat observations (9) and cloud water analysis (11) to estimate worldwide laser attenuation for satellite- ground communication links. Section 3 gave worldwide zenith attenuation estimates for 80% availability, 90% availability, and 70% availability.

Deep Seek to the Excited States: A Thermally‐Activated Jahn–Teller Effect Achieves Superior Sensitivity for Thermometry at Cryogenic Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A Sb3+‐activated bismuth‐based halide single crystal shifts the onset temperature by ≈200 K. The confluence of the spin‐orbit interaction and the dynamic Jahn–Teller effect is responsible for maximizing the opposite emission changes at different temperatures. A high relative sensitivity (Sr) value of 18.9 % K−1 is obtained at 77 K.
