Community-acquired infections with stenotrophomonas maltophilia

S. maltophilia (SM) is widely regarded as an exclusively hospital-acquired organism. However SM is present widely in the environment, and has occasionally been cultured from patients with no history of hospitalization. The epidemiology of community-acquired SM infection has never been previously described, 29 isolates of SM in non-hospitalized patients
