Interaction of Staphylococcus aureus di‐iron Repair of Iron Centers protein with the iron–sulfur cluster assembly SUF system

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Repair of Iron Centers (RIC) proteins are present in several pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus, contributing to resistance to nitroxidative stress and virulence. In this work, we investigated the molecular mechanisms by which S. aureus RIC facilitates iron mobilization, through structural analyses and functional studies.

The Effects of Acute Hospitalisation on the Characteristics of Acute Sarcopenia in Older Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJCSM Communications, Volume 9, Issue 1, January/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Acute sarcopenia in hospitalised older adults is associated with poor outcomes, such as functional decline, increased risk of falls and prolonged hospital stays. Despite this, its development among older inpatients remains poorly understood.

Hemothorax as the Initial Manifestation of KRAS G12D Positive Pulmonary Pleomorphic Carcinoma: A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
We report a rare case of KRAS G12D positive pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma penetrating the visceral pleura, leading to rapid tumour growth and uncontrolled hemothorax. In addition to the high proliferative and invasive potential of the tumour, the oncological properties of the KRAS G12D mutation likely precipitated both the abrupt onset and recurrence

Reconsidering the Role of Blood Cultures in Community‐Acquired Pneumonia: A Case of Co‐Infection With Streptococcus pneumoniae and Klebsiella variicola

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
We report a case of community‐acquired pneumonia. In this case, the blood culture was essential for detection of co‐infection of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Klebsiella variicola, which combination is first reported. ABSTRACT Community‐acquired pneumonia (CAP) remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality.

Necrotizing Pneumonia Caused by PVL‐Negative Methicillin‐Susceptible Staphylococcus aureus Complicated by Refractory Pneumothorax: A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
Here we report a case of PVL‐negative MSSA necrotizing pneumonia in a previously healthy man that rapidly progressed to cavitary lesions and refractory pneumothorax. Despite its improvement after clindamycin‐based therapy, the patient experienced recurrent pneumothorax and chronic respiratory failure.
