Alternative assembly processes from trait-mediated co-evolution in mutualistic communities
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2018Ecological and evolutionary dynamics observed in mutualistic communities can be shaped by several mechanisms, including ecological interactions and their co-evolutionary consequences. Here we explore how intra and interspecific competition, together with mutualistic interactions, can affect community assembly through their effects on adaptive ...

How Nascent Technology Entrepreneurs Organize: The Community Assembly Process
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2017This paper asks how entrepreneurs organize, and how they come to be organized in communities. The paper reviews literature on regional entrepreneurial networks and organizing in incubators, and finds that prior research has alluded to the role of communities, but neglected to develop explicit theory on the origins of meso-level social structures.

Stochastic processes shape microbial community assembly in biofilters: Hidden role of rare taxa.
Bioresource TechnologyStochastic and deterministic processes are the major themes governing microbial community assembly; however, their roles in bioreactors are poorly understood.

Complex microplastics significantly influence the assembly process of lake bacterial communities
Journal of Hazardous MaterialsEnvironmental microplastics (MPs) vary in abundance, shape, size, color, and polymer type in freshwater ecosystems, yet their impact on bacterial community assembly in natural lakes is unclear. Here, we examined MPs and bacterial compositions in water and sediments of Taihu Lake, China, to reveal the influence of complex MPs on the bacterial community ...

Microbial necromass contribution to soil carbon storage via community assembly processes
Science of The Total EnvironmentSoil organic matter has been well acknowledged as a natural solution to mitigate climate change and to maintain agricultural productivity. Microbial necromass is an important contributor to soil organic carbon (SOC) storage, and serves as a resource pool for microbial utilization.

Searching for predictable assembly processes in freshwater fish communities
2018The development of the metacommunity theory has highlighted the importance of taking regional dispersal into account to understand how species are assembled in local communities. Metacommunity studies have used two main approaches to seek for general processes regulating metacommunities: variation partitioning analysis to tease apart the influence of ...
