Community Detection with Fuzzy Community Structure

2011 International Conference on Advances in Social Networks Analysis and Mining, 2011
In order to find a cover which allows nodes to be shared among several communities, we propose a simple fuzzy community detection algorithm, which is based on an existing partition detection technique. For the performance of overlapping nodes that makes the partition ambiguous, a new extended modularity is introduced to qualify covers.

The structure of communication [PDF]

open access: possibleElectronics and Power, 1970
What can we know of the outside world via our contact through the senses, when the object studied, the transmission of information about the object and the sensation we have in our brain are totally different in kind? Using the gramophone record as a starting point, the author traces the transmission of the information encoded in the disc to the human ...

Information Communities: The Network Structure of Communication

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2011
Abstract This study puts forward a variable clique overlap model for identifying information communities, or potentially overlapping subgroups of network actors among whom reinforced independent links ensure efficient communication. We posit that the average intensity of communication between related individuals in information communities is greater ...

Incentives and the Structure of Communication

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2015
This paper analyzes the incentives that arise within an organization when communication is restricted to a particular network structure (e.g., a hierarchy). We show that restricting communication between the principal and agents may create incentives for the agents to misbehave when transmitting information and tasks throughout the organization.

Community structure

2006
Publisher Summary Communities are composed of the species that occupy a site. Identification of patterns in community structure has been a major goal of ecological research. Ecologists have developed a variety of nontaxonomic approaches in describing community structure, which provides different types of information to meet different objectives.

Polyploidy and community structure

Nature Microbiology, 2017
Many species of Archaea, Bacteria and eukaryotes are polyploid in natural populations. The mixture of species with unknown but widely varying ploidy levels compromises marker-gene-based analyses of community structures, population dynamics and microbiomes.

The structure of helminth communities

International Journal for Parasitology, 1987
Abstract The existence of both interactive and isolationist communities of helminths, each of which may be produced by any one of several processes, necessitates a pluralistic view of helminth community structure. A scheme involving three hierarchical scales of communities of helminths is proposed.

The Communication Structure of Epistemic Communities

Philosophy of Science, 2007
Increasingly, epistemologists are becoming interested in social structures and their effect on epistemic enterprises, but little attention has been paid to the proper distribution of experimental results among scientists. This paper will analyze a model first suggested by two economists, which nicely captures one type of learning situation faced by ...
