Observational and Timing Studies of Compact Binaries Containing Compact Objects and Evolved Stars

Compact binary stars are a cornerstone of and often the first step in exploring some of the most interesting processes in the Universe. These systems, which typically have orbital periods of less than a day, take on many different appearances and probe various points of stellar evolution.

Ultra-Compact X-ray Binaries with He Star Companions

Ultra-compact X-ray binaries (UCXBs) are low-mass X-ray binaries with hydrogen-deficient mass-donors and ultra-short orbital periods. They have been suggested to be the potential Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) sources in the low-frequency region. Several channels for the formation of UCXBs have been proposed so far.
