Compact torsion groups

1974
This paper is concerned exclusively with compact Hausdorff topological groups, all elements of which have finite order (compact torsion groups). It is well known that a compact torsion group is necessarily totally disconnected [5, (28.20)] and hence profinite.

Compact groups of compact galaxies

Astronomische Nachrichten, 1976
AbstractThe paper is a review of the most important phenomenological properties of the compact groups of compact galaxies (CCCGs) and the physical conditions of objects with well‐known spectra. This paper contains a reference list of all CCCGs.

Lie groups and $p$-compact groups

1998
\(p\)-compact groups are a homotopy analogue of compact Lie groups. The article presents a survey of the theory of these objects that was developed largely by the author and \textit{C. W. Wilkerson}, e.g. [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 139, No. 2, 395-442 (1994; Zbl 0801.55007)], and by \textit{J. M. Møller} and \textit{D. Notbohm}, e.g. [J. Reine Angew.

A compact representation for permutation groups

23rd Annual Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science (sfcs 1982), 1982
Summary: A data structure is presented which enables an arbitrary permutation group of degree n to be represented in \(O(n^ 2)\) space. An algorithm is provided which, given a permutation group specified in the usual way as a set of generators, constructs the proposed representation in time \(O(n^ 5)\).

Fusion in compact lie groups

The Quarterly Journal of Mathematics, 1996
In understanding how much of the results on finite groups carry over to compact Lie groups, the author has proved some results on compact Lie groups which are analogous to some of the results obtained by Alperin and Goldschmidt. Modifying the proof of the main Fusion theorem proved by \textit{J. L. Alperin} [J. Algebra 6, 222-241 (1967; Zbl 0168.27202)]
