Printed Organic Thermoelectric Generators: Progress and Challenges Towards Efficient Energy Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Printed organic thermoelectric generators (OTEGs) enable flexible and sustainable energy harvesting from low‐grade heat. This Perspective critically assesses recent advances in printable thermoelectric materials, 2D and 3D device architectures, and current performance limits of printed OTEGs.

Variational principle for the Wheeler-Feynman electrodynamics

open access: yes, 2009
We adapt the formally-defined Fokker action into a variational principle for the electromagnetic two-body problem. We introduce properly defined boundary conditions to construct a Poincare-invariant-action-functional of a finite orbital segment into the ...

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Domain Walls and Spaces of Special Holonomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We review the relations between a family of domain-wall solutions to M-theory and gravitational instantons with special holonomy. When oxidized into the maximal-dimension parent supergravity, the transverse spaces of these domain walls become ...

Perelman's lambda-functional and the stability of Ricci-flat metrics

open access: yes, 2011
In this article, we introduce a new method (based on Perelman's lambda-functional) to study the stability of compact Ricci-flat metrics. Under the assumption that all infinitesimal Ricci-flat deformations are integrable we prove: (A) a Ricci-flat metric ...

The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

A State‐Adaptive Koopman Control Framework for Real‐Time Deformable Tool Manipulation in Robotic Environmental Swabbing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a state‐adaptive Koopman linear quadratic regulator framework for real‐time manipulation of a deformable swab tool in robotic environmental sampling. By combining Koopman linearization, tactile sensing, and centroid‐based force regulation, the system maintains stable contact forces and high coverage across flat and inclined surfaces.

Geometric Integration of Hamiltonian Systems Perturbed by Rayleigh Damping

open access: yes, 2011
Explicit and semi-explicit geometric integration schemes for dissipative perturbations of Hamiltonian systems are analyzed. The dissipation is characterized by a small parameter $\epsilon$, and the schemes under study preserve the symplectic structure in
