Compact polarimetry overview and applications assessment

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Remote Sensing, 2010
A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) with hybrid-polarity (CL-pol) architecture transmits circular polarization and receives two orthogonal, mutually coherent linear polarizations, which is one manifestation of compact polarimetry. The resulting radar is relatively simple to implement and has unique self-calibration features and low susceptibility to noise.

Assessment of the High Resolution SAR Mode of the RADARSAT Constellation Mission for First Year Ice and Multiyear Ice Characterization

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Simulated compact polarimetry from the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) is evaluated for sea ice classification. Compared to previous studies that evaluated the potential of RCM for sea ice classification, this study focuses on the High Resolution ...

An Assessment of Simulated Compact Polarimetric SAR Data for Wetland Classification Using Random Forest Algorithm

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Remote Sensing, 2017
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) compact polarimetry (CP) systems are of great interest for large area monitoring because of their ability to acquire data in a wider swath compared to full polarimetry (FP) systems and a significant improvement in ...

Circular polarization measurement in millimeter-wavelength spectral-line VLBI observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper considers the problem of accurate measurement of circular polarization in imaging spectral-line VLBI observations in the lambda=7 mm and lambda=3 mm wavelength bands.

Analysis of Dual- and Full-Circular Polarimetric SAR Modes for Rice Phenology Monitoring: An Experimental Investigation through Ground-Based Measurements

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
Circularly polarized synthetic aperture radar (CP-SAR) is known to be insensitive to polarization mismatch losses caused by the Faraday rotation effect and antenna misalignment.

POET: POlarimeters for Energetic Transients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
POET (Polarimeters for Energetic Transients) is a Small Explorer mission concept proposed to NASA in January 2008. The principal scientific goal of POET is to measure GRB polarization between 2 and 500 keV.

The Growth of Interest in Astronomical X-Ray Polarimetry

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
Astronomical X-ray polarimetry was first explored in the end of the 1960s by pioneering rocket instruments. The craze arising from the first discoveries of stellar and supernova remnant X-ray polarization led to the addition of X-ray polarimeters to ...

The growth of interest for astronomical X-ray polarimetry

open access: yes, 2018
Astronomical X-ray polarimetry was first explored in the end of the 60's by pioneering rocket instruments. The craze arising from the first discoveries on stellar and supernova remnant X-ray polarization led to the addition of X-ray polarimeters on-board

Identifying Compact Symmetric Objects in the Southern Sky [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We present results of multifrequency polarimetric VLBA observations of 20 compact radio sources. The observations represent the northern and southern extensions of a large survey undertaken to identify Compact Symmetric Objects (CSOs) Observed in the ...

Investigation of C-Band SAR Polarimetry for Mapping a High-Tidal Coastal Environment in Northern Canada

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has been used in characterizing intertidal zones along northern Canadian coastlines. RADARSAT-2, with its full polarimetric information, has been considered for monitoring these vulnerable ecosystems and helping enhance the
