Unidirectional Tape‐Based Composites from Hemp and Pineapple Leaf Fiber: Mechanical Performance in Conventional and Bio‐Based Matrices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study investigates novel semi‐finished products made of unidirectionally arranged hemp or pineapple leaf fiber‐reinforced composites produced from different matrices. The materials are analyzed in terms of their mechanical and interfacial properties and void content.

Compact Size UWB Monopole Antenna with Triple Band-Notches [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2017
This paper presents triple band notched ultra wide band (UWB) monopole antenna with overall size of 36 × 32 mm2 fed by microstrip transmission line. In order to achieve a good impedance matching from 2.7 GHz to 13.4 GHz, a tapered transition between the ...

A New CPW-fed Patch Antenna for UWB Applications

open access: yesJournal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2017
In this paper, the design and analysis of a compact size coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed antenna for ultrawideband (UWB) applications is presented. The antenna has a compact size of 20×20×1.1 .5 .mm and provides a good impedance matching over the entire ...

A Nearby Analog of z~2 Compact Quiescent Galaxies with a Rotating Disk

open access: yes, 2012
Recent studies have identified a population of compact quiescent galaxies at z\sim2. These galaxies are very rare today and establishing the existence of a nearby analog could allow us to study its structure in greater detail than is possible at high ...

Can Ti‐Based MXenes Serve as Solid Lubricants for Brake Applications? A Tribological Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the first implementation of Ti‐based MXenes materials in brake pad friction composite material. The resulting composite material exhibits a 48% reduction in the wear rate; alongside significant improvements are observed for thermal and mechanical properties.

Non-compact local excitations in spin glasses

open access: yes, 2002
We study numerically the local low-energy excitations in the 3-d Edwards-Anderson model for spin glasses. Given the ground state, we determine the lowest-lying connected cluster of flipped spins with a fixed volume containing one given spin.

Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Self-force on extreme mass ratio inspirals via curved spacetime effective field theory

open access: yes, 2008
In this series we construct an effective field theory (EFT) in curved spacetime to study gravitational radiation and backreaction effects. We begin in this paper with a derivation of the self-force on a compact object moving in the background spacetime ...
