The Gromov-Hausdorff Metric on the Space of Compact Metric Spaces is Strictly Intrinsic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
It is proved that the Gromov-Hausdorff metric on the space of compact metric spaces considered up to an isometry is strictly intrinsic, i.e., the corresponding metric space is geodesic. In other words, each two points of this space (each two compact metric spaces) can be connected by a geodesic.

COMPACTNESS OF THE SPACE OF LEFT ORDERS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, 2007
A left order on a magma (e.g. semigroup) is a total order of its elements that is left invariant under the magma operation. A natural topology can be introduced on the set of all left orders of an arbitrary magma. We prove that this topological space is compact.

Digital Methods for the Fatigue Assessment of Engineering Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The use of engineering steels is often limited by their fatigue strength. In the sake of a faster product development, the fatigue behavior can be predicted by machine learning (ML). In this work, ML is applied on a heterogeneous database, covering a wide range of steel types.

On a stronger form of hereditary compactness in product spaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1998
The aim of this paper is to continue the study of sg-compact spaces. The class of sg-compact spaces is a proper subclass of the class of hereditarily compact spaces. In our paper we shall consider sg-compactness in product spaces. Our main result says that if a product space is sg-compact, then either all factor spaces are finite, or exactly one factor

Measure-compact spaces

open access: yesTopology and its Applications, 1992
AbstractThe property measure-compact fits between the Lindelöf and realcompact properties, i.e., Lindelöf implies measure-compact implies realcompact. Much of the research on measure-compact spaces centers on two themes: one, what properties measure-compactness shares with Lindelöf and realcompactness and two, the relationships between measure ...

Ontology‐Based Data Acquisition, Refinement, and Utilization in the Development of a Multilayer Ferrite Inductor

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Multilayer ferrite inductor prototypes are fabricated by cofiring metallized tapes of NiCuZn ferrite and glass‐ceramic composite. Prerequisites for a predictive component simulation are discussed. An automated data‐pipeline stores and semantically links the experimental data acquired in the study according to a domain ontology.

Net-Compact Hausdorff Topologies and Continuous Multi-Utility Representations for Closed Preorders

open access: yesAxioms
In this paper, we deal with continuous multi-utility representations for closed preorders. We introduce the definition of a net-compact topology, which generalizes the concept of a sequentially compact topology.

Weakly compact composition operators on spaces of Lipschitz functions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Let $X$ be a pointed compact metric space. Assuming that $\mathrm{lip}_0(X)$ has the uniform separation property, we prove that every weakly compact composition operator on spaces of Lipschitz functions $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X)$ and $\mathrm{lip}_0(X)$ is compact.

Development and Validation of a One‐Dimensional Finite Difference Simulation Scheme for Polymer Laser Powder Bed Fusion with Application to the Effect of the Inter Layer Time

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an efficient simulation approach for the polymer laser powder bed fusion process polymers process, validated with polyamide 12, polyamide 6, and polyetherketoneketone. It shows that inter layer time affects part density, with 90s yielding dense parts.

Semantic Orchestration and Exploitation of Material Data: A Dataspace Solution Demonstrated on Steel and Copper Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article introduces the Dataspace Management System (DSMS), a methodological framework realized in software, designed as a technology stack to power dataspaces with a focus on advanced knowledge management in materials science and manufacturing. DSMS leverages heterogeneous data through semantic integration, linkage, and visualization, aligned with
