Graphite Nucleation in Compacted Graphite Cast Iron

International Journal of Metalcasting, 2020
During the last several decades, a multitude of theories have attempted to explain the process of graphite nucleation in lamellar (LG) and spheroidal (SG) graphite iron castings. Nevertheless, the complex 3D morphology of compacted graphite (CG) has hindered significant advances in similar theories for this type of graphite.

Engineering Compacted Graphite Iron Castings

2022
Abstract Compacted graphite iron (GCI) is a cast iron grade that is engineered through graphite morphology modifications to achieve a combination of thermal and mechanical properties that are in between those of flake graphite iron and ductile iron.

Compacted Graphite Iron

1990
Abstract This article discusses the chemical composition, castability, mechanical properties at room temperature and elevated temperature, and physical properties of compacted graphite (CG) cast iron. The change in graphite morphology from the flake graphite (FG) in the base iron to the CG in the final iron is achieved by liquid ...

Compacted Graphite Iron

1998
Abstract This article discusses the graphite morphology, chemical composition, mechanical and physical properties, and applications of compacted graphite (CG) irons. It compares the selected properties of gray, ductile and CG irons, and lists their property requirements as per ASTM A 842.

Compacted graphite iron: Cast iron makes a comeback

JOM, 1994
Although compacted graphite iron has been known for more than four decades, the absence of a reliable mass-production technique has resulted in relatively little effort to exploit its operational benefits. However, a proven on-line process control technology developed by SinterCast allows for series production of complex components in high-quality CGI.

Compacted Graphite Irons

2001
Abstract This article discusses the composition and morphology of compacted graphite (CG) iron relative to that of gray and ductile iron. It explains that the graphite in CG iron is intermediate in shape between the spheroidal graphite found in ductile iron and the flake graphite in gray iron, giving it distinct advantages in a number of
