Electrochemistry, Ion Adsorption and Dynamics in the Double Layer: A Study of NaCl(aq) on Graphite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Graphite is a ubiquitous electrode material with particular promise for use in e.g., energy storage and desalination devices, but very little is known about the properties of the graphite-electrolyte double layer at technologically relevant concentrations.

Abrasive Wear Resistance of High-Strength Compacted Graphite Iron under Microabrasion Conditions

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
Compacted graphite iron (CGI) has been considered an excellent option for heavy-duty engine blocks due to its superior mechanical properties, which allow reduction of weight, enhancing engine performance. Abrasion is a recognized wear mechanism in engine

Fatigue crack growth in compacted and spheroidal graphite cast irons [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Fatigue, 2020
Abstract The present paper focuses on the fatigue life of a Compacted Graphite cast Iron (CGI) as compared to a Spheroidal Graphite cast Iron (SGI). Fatigue crack growth laws have been determined with digital image correlation. Main difference between the materials is that cracks propagate faster in the CGI than in the SGI.

On Thermal Expansion and Density of CGI and SGI Cast Irons

open access: yesMetals, 2015
The thermal expansion and density of Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) and Spheroidal Graphite Iron (SGI) were measured in the temperature range of 25–500 °C using push-rod type dilatometer.

First-principles modeling of the interactions of iron impurities with graphene and graphite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Results of first principles modelling of interactions graphene and graphite with iron impurities predict the colossal difference between these two carbon allotropes. Insertion of the iron atoms between the planes of graphite is much more energetically favourable than adsorption of the iron adatom at graphite or graphene surface.

Microstructure and properties of silicon alloyed compacted graphite irons (CGI)

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2020
The microstructure, tensile properties and hardness of 25 mm thick compacted graphite iron samples alloyed with 3,01, 3,22, 3,61, 3,97 and 4,29 wt. % Si were analyzed in this paper. It was found that Si promotes and strengthens ferrite.

Coordinated Analysis of Two Graphite Grains from the CO3.0 LAP 031117 Meteorite: First Identification of a CO Nova Graphite and a Presolar Iron Sulfide Subgrain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Presolar grains constitute remnants of stars that existed before the formation of the solar system. In addition to providing direct information on the materials from which the solar system formed, these grains provide ground-truth information for models of stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis.

Effect of growth temperature on the CVD grown Fe filled multi-walled carbon nanotubes using a modified photoresist [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research Bulletin, Volume 45, Issue 9, September 2010, Pages 1189-1193, 2020
Fe filled carbon nanotubes were synthesized by atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition using a simple mixture of iron acetylacetonate with a conventional photoresist and the effect of growth temperature from 550 to 950 {\deg}C on Fe filled nanotubes has been studied.

A comparison of the magnetic properties of Proton- and Iron-implanted graphite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this work we have investigated the changes of the magnetic properties of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite samples after irradiation either with $\sim 3 \times 10^{14}$ protons or $ 3.5 \times 10^{13} ... 3.5 \times 10^{14}$ iron ions with energies in the MeV range. Our results show that iron and proton irradiations can produce similar paramagnetic
