Companding and random quantization in several dimensions [PDF]
The problem of implementing multidimensional quantizers is discussed. A general equation is derived that can be used to evaluate the performance of multidimensional compandors. It is demonstrated that the optimal compandor must be conformal almost everywhere.

An FFT-Based Companding Front End for Noise-Robust Automatic Speech Recognition
We describe an FFT-based companding algorithm for preprocessing speech before recognition. The algorithm mimics tone-to-tone suppression and masking in the auditory system to improve automatic speech recognition performance in noise.

A Companding Technique for PAPR Reduction of OFDM Systems
[[abstract]]A companding technique using the hyperbolic tangent transform is proposed for reducing the peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals.

A New Linear Companding Transform to Reduce the PAPR in OFDM System under Rayleigh Distribution
Large amplitude fluctuations causeserious issues in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signals, when a nonlinear power amplifier (NLPA) has been utilized.

Optimal Compressor Functions for Multidimensional Companding of Memoryless Sources
We determine the asymptotically optimal compressor function for a multidimensional compander when the source is memoryless. Under certain technical assumptions on the compressor function, it is shown that the best k-dimensional compressor function ...

Companding to improve cochlearimplant speech recognition in speech-shaped noise,” [PDF]
Nonlinear sensory and neural processing mechanisms have been exploited to enhance spectral contrast for improvement of speech understanding in noise. The "companding" algorithm employs both two-tone suppression and adaptive gain mechanisms to ...
