A Variational Beam Model for Failure of Cellular and Truss‐Based Architected Materials
Herein, a versatile and efficient beam modeling framework is developed to predict the nonlinear response and failure of cellular, truss‐based, and woven architected materials. It enables the exploration of their design space and the optimization of their mechanical behavior in the nonlinear regime. A variational formulation of a beam model is presented

A numerical scheme is presented to design a lattice support for metallic components additively built via laser powder bed fusion. Results show that thermal‐induced distortion can be respectively reduced by 69%, 58%, and 50% in comparison to a uniform lattice, a fully solid support, and a truss‐based lattice support.

Dynamic percolation of ferromagnetic regions in phase separated manganites using non-uniform electric fields [PDF]
Thin films of the manganite (La$_{1-y}$Pr$_y$)$_{1-x}$Ca$_x$MnO$_3$ exhibit dynamic phase coexistence with micrometer scale, fluid-like ferromagnetic metallic (FMM) regions interspersed in a charge-order insulating (COI) background. It has been previously reported that a uniform electric field realigns the fluid-like FMM regions due to a phenomenon ...

Modeling Line Broadening and Distortion Due to Spatially Non-Uniform Fields in Rydberg Electrometry [PDF]
We present a model for calculating broadened Autler-Townes spectra when probing ac electric field magnitudes by use of Rydberg atom electromagnetically-induced transparency. This model approximates the atom vapor as a multi-layered media and uses Beer's law to combine probe beam absorption through many discrete thin segments, replicating the broadening
