Assessing developmental toxicity and non-CYP mediated biotransformation of two anti-epileptics and their human metabolites in zebrafish embryos and larvae

open access: yesCurrent Research in Toxicology
Zebrafish embryo-based assays are a promising alternative for animal testing to screen new compounds for developmental toxicity. However, recent studies in zebrafish embryos showed an immature intrinsic cytochrome P450 (CYP)-mediated biotransformation ...

Information Inequality and Network Externalities: A Comparative Study of the Diffusion of Television and the Internet [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper sheds light on whether intergroup inequality in Internet access is likely to persist as the diffusion process continues. To what extent is a given level of inequality in technology diffusion (e.g., use of the Internet) a long-term policy ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Monitoring of circulating tumor DNA allows early detection of disease relapse in patients with operable breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with operable breast cancer can reveal disease relapse earlier than radiology in a subset of patients. The failure to detect ctDNA in some patients with recurrent disease suggests that ctDNA could serve as a supplement to other monitoring approaches.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Comparative Analysis of Technology Frameworks.

open access: yes, 2015
Most of the frameworks concerned by policy making analysis and policy modelling, are spread across multidiscipline sciences like public policy; political science, computer science and social sciences. Frameworks address general forms of theoretical analysis, by identifying the elements and general relationships among different components and provide a ...

A Comparison of Veblen and Schumpeter on Technology [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper aims at demonstrating the significance of two alternative approaches developed by Veblen and Schumpeter to technology underlying recent institutionalist and evolutionary stances. It should be mentioned that it is not the primary object of this

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Technology, Trade Specialization and Development: Jumping to Technology Development Era [PDF]

open access: yes
Developing countries often are characterized as producers and exporters of a few types of natural resource based goods. Intuition dictates that these countries should change their strategy from being merely merchandise producers to technology developers ...
