Fire Development and Smoke Propagation in Ship Compartments

Ship Technology Research, 2004
A numerical method to calculate fire development and propagation in ship compartments is proposed. The method uses coarse grids allowing relatively fast solutions (zonal model), featuring an improved treatment of walls between compartments. The method is validated against model tests and applied to a generic vehicle deck of a ro-ro ship.

Knowledge-based nonmonotonic reasoning process in ship compartment design system

Expert Systems with Applications, 1997
Abstract Recently marine pollution has been a hot issue in shipbuilding fields especially in the design of crude oil tanker ships. There are many significant constraints to be considered at the design stage. In this paper, an expert system to support compartment design of a crude oil tanker is developed so as to treat many of the constraints and ...

Ship compartment modeling based on a non-manifold polyhedron modeling kernel

Advances in Engineering Software, 2009
Currently, ship compartment modeling systems which are being used in shipyards support compartment modeling of the bottom-up approach. That is, a compartment model of a ship is being generated by modeling all compartments one by one. However, this method requires much time and efforts because the ship consists of compartments of several tens to several

Solving the ship inventory routing and scheduling problem with undedicated compartments

Computers & Industrial Engineering, 2009
This paper addresses a ship inventory routing and scheduling problem faced by an oil company serving many locations. The problem involves the delivery of multiple products from loading to unloading ports by using heterogeneous types of limited numbers of ships. The nature of the products needs them to be loaded separately into compartments of the ships.

Numerical study of damaged ship's compartment sinking with air compression effect

Ocean Engineering, 2018
Abstract The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method was applied to study the dynamics of damaged ship during flooding and sinking process, in which the air compression effect was taken into account. The studied case was a ship's compartment with bottom damage sinking into calm water.

An automated design scheme: Weight minimization of a single hulled ship compartment

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1984
AbstractThis paper describes the stages of development of an optimum structural design scheme. Any attempt to generate the optimum scantlings of a structure of even moderate complexity usually poses nonlinear programming problems for which there exist no universally accepted solution method.
