Intracellular Compartmentalization of Potassium

American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 1989
The evidence that there is intracellular compartmentalization of potassium is indirect but diverse. Intracellular electrode measurement of potassium activity, 42K radioisotope studies, and more recently 39K nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) all support such compartmentalization.

Compartmental Syndromes

New England Journal of Medicine, 1979
Although uncommon, compartmental syndromes may be encountered by physicians of almost any specialty, because they can arise under a variety of circumstances. Prompt diagnosis, made on the basis of clinical signs and symptoms, and usually surgical decompression of involved and potentially involved compartments can obviate significant or total loss of ...

Compartmentation of GAPDH

2012
The concept of the cytosol as a space that contains discrete zones of metabolites is discussed relative to the contribution of GAPDH. GAPDH is directed to very specific cell compartments. This chapter describes the utilization of GAPDH's enzymatic function for focal demands (i.e.

Evolution of intracellular compartmentalization

Biochemical Journal, 2012
Cells compartmentalize their biochemical functions in a variety of ways, notably by creating physical barriers that separate a compartment via membranes or proteins. Eukaryotes have a wide diversity of membrane-based compartments, many that are lineage- or tissue-specific.

Functional compartmentalization of the nucleus

Journal of Cell Science, 1996
ABSTRACT Recent applications of cell biology and molecular genetics have built an image of nuclear organization in which the molecular machines involved in transcription, RNA processing and replication assemble morphologically distinct nuclear organelles with defined functional properties. These observations indicate a very high level of

Compartmentalization of the Cell Membrane

Journal of Molecular Biology, 2016
Many cell-membrane-associated processes require transient spatiotemporal separation of components on scales ranging from a couple of molecules to micrometers in size. Understanding these processes mechanistically involves understanding how lipids and proteins self-organize and interact with the cell cortex. Here, we review recent advances in dissecting

Compartmental Syndromes in Children

Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 1981
Compartmental syndromes are reported in 24 children after injuries and surgery. In these cases, increased tissue pressure compromised local perfusion and neuromuscular function. Compartmental syndromes occurred in the interosseous compartments of the hand, the volar and dorsal compartments of the forearm, and the four compartments of the leg.

A CRITIQUE OF COMPARTMENTAL ANALYSIS

Annual Review of Biophysics and Bioengineering, 1981
In 10 years, fro.m 1969 thro.ugh 1978, 341 articles were indexed under compartmental analysis. There must be many times that number in which data were analyzed by compartmental analysis but are no.t retrieved by searching o.nly under that rubric. This article is no.t a review o.f tho.se reports; it is a critique of uses and underlying co.ncepts of ...

Compartmentation of the jugular foramen

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1972
✓ The radiographic anatomy of the jugular foramen is described. Normal variations in size and configuration are discussed and principal pathological configurations listed. The radiographic features of complete separation of the jugular foramen into separate neural and vascular components are presented.

Compartmental Syndromes

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1975
A compartmental syndrome is defined as a condition in which increased pressure within a space compromises the circulation to the contents of that space. Any cause of increased intracompartmental pressure may result in a compartmental syndrome. The diagnosis should be suspected in any case of pain or neuromuscular deficit in an extremity and may be ...
