Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Accurate Evaluation of Polynomials in Legendre Basis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2014
This paper presents a compensated algorithm for accurate evaluation of a polynomial in Legendre basis. Since the coefficients of the evaluated polynomial are fractions, we propose to store these coefficients in two floating point numbers, such as double ...

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Robust Bias Compensation LMS Algorithms Under Colored Gaussian Input Noise and Impulse Observation Noise Environments

open access: yesMathematics
Adaptive filtering algorithms often suffer from biased parameter estimation and performance degradation in the presence of colored input noise and impulsive observation noise, both of which are common in practical sensor and communication systems ...

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Image restoration algorithm based on compensated transmission and adaptive haze concentration coefficient

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2020
Aiming at the drawbacks of traditional dark channel prior, which was prone to distortion and Halo effects in the bright areas,a haze image restoration algorithm based on compensated transmission and adaptive haze concentration coefficient was proposed ...

Fine Imaging Method of THz-ViSAR on Subaperture Range Migration Algorithm and Distinctive-Point Map Drift Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Video synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a new type of synthetic aperture radar. In order to achieve high imaging frame rate, the data collected by video SAR is divided into multiple units for imaging.

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...
