Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

The Competitive Saving Motive: Evidence from Rising Sex Ratios and Savings Rates in China [PDF]

open access: yes
The high and rising household savings rate in China is not easily reconciled with the traditional explanations that emphasize life cycle factors, the precautionary saving motive, financial development, or habit formation.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

The Competitive Complexity Ratio

open access: yes, 2000
The competitive complexity ratio is the worst case ratio of the regret of a data-driven model to that obtained by a model which benefits from side information. The side information bounds the sizes of unknown parameters.

Frugality Ratios and Improved Truthful Mechanisms for Vertex Cover [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In set-system auctions, there are several overlapping teams of agents, and a task that can be completed by any of these teams. The auctioneer's goal is to hire a team and pay as little as possible.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

An Algorithm for Bichromatic Sorting with Polylog Competitive Ratio [PDF]

open access: yes
The problem of sorting with priced information was introduced by [Charikar, Fagin, Guruswami, Kleinberg, Raghavan, Sahai (CFGKRS), STOC 2000]. In this setting, different comparisons have different (potentially infinite) costs.

Tests of the ratio rule in categorization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Many theories of learning and memory (e.g. connectionist, associative, rational, exemplar-based) produce psychological magnitude terms as output (i.e. numbers representing the momentary level of some subjective property). Many theories assume that these

Productivity, compatibility and economics of mustard (Brassica juncea) and lentil (Lens esculenta) intercropping system as influenced by moisture conservation practices and fertility levels under rainfed conditions

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2014
It can be summarized from the results obtained that mustard and lentil populations are well compatible in intercrop association with 2:2 paired row ratio, i.e.

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.
